Questions

What is Bates numbering?

A unique number stamped on every page, like WHITFIELD-000001, so anyone can point to an exact page. Bindery can run one sequence through the whole bundle or restart it for each exhibit (A-0001, B-0001).

Does it work for UK court bundles?

Yes, two ways. “UK civil” gives you A4, a front index, tabbed dividers, consecutive page numbers and bookmarks. “UK family (PD27A)” pages each section on its own, A1, A2, then B1, and leaves the index unnumbered. Bindery doesn’t OCR scans, and orders vary, so check yours.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Bindery does all of its work inside your browser. There is no upload step and no server that receives documents. Check it yourself: load the page, turn off your internet connection, and build a bundle.

I already have Acrobat. Why use this?

Acrobat can stamp Bates numbers. Bindery also makes the cover sheets, exhibit stickers and linked index from your file list, and renumbers all of it when a late exhibit turns up.

Can numbering restart for each exhibit?

Yes. Choose “Restart per exhibit” and every exhibit starts again at 1, with its label in the number. Cover sheets and the index can be numbered or left out.

What happens when my Case Pass ends?

Your bundle stays in this browser. You can still export up to 3 exhibits free, or buy another pass for the next round of changes.

Does Pro renew automatically?

Yes, once a year at $99 until you cancel. Stripe emails you before each renewal, and you can cancel online anytime.

Which files can I add?

PDFs and images: JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC where your browser supports it. Phone photos are turned upright and sized to fit the page. PDFs that only block copying go straight in as images. If a PDF needs a password to open, open it once and save a copy without one. Word files: save as PDF first.

Do I need an account? Can my firm get a receipt?

No account. Checkout emails a receipt to the address you pay with, and you get a license key on the spot. Paste it into any other browser to use your pass there.

Is this legal advice?

No. Bindery is a document tool, not a law firm. Rules for exhibits and bundles vary by court, so check yours before you file.
